Dental Crowns.

Strength & Protection

At Beyond Smiles Family Dental, we offer high-quality dental crowns to restore and protect damaged or weakened teeth. Crowns are a versatile solution that can strengthen compromised teeth, enhance their appearance, and improve overall oral health. Whether your tooth has been affected by decay, trauma, or wear, a dental crown can provide long-lasting protection and restore your smile.

What is a dental crown?

A dental crown is a custom-made cap that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth. It acts as a protective shell, reinforcing the tooth’s structure while restoring its shape, size, and appearance. Crowns are commonly made from materials such as porcelain, ceramic, or a combination of metal and porcelain to ensure durability and a natural look.

The dental crown procedure: The process of getting a dental crown typically involves two visits to Beyond Smiles Family Dental.

  • First Visit: Preparation During your first appointment, the tooth is prepared to make room for the crown. We will numb the area and remove any decayed or damaged parts of the tooth, shaping it to accommodate the crown.
    • After preparation, we take precise impressions or scans of the tooth, which are sent to a dental laboratory to create your custom crown. While your permanent crown is being made, you will receive a temporary crown to protect the tooth. Some crowns can be in-house within the surgery premises as well.
  • Second Visit: Placement: Once your custom crown is ready, you’ll return for your second appointment. We will remove the temporary crown and check the fit and appearance of the permanent one.If everything looks and feels right, the crown will be permanently bonded to your tooth using dental cement. We will ensure that your bite is comfortable and make any necessary adjustments.

Benefits of dental crowns:

  • Protection and strength: Crowns provide essential reinforcement for teeth that are weak or damaged, helping to prevent further deterioration or breakage.
  • Natural appearance: Porcelain and ceramic crowns are crafted to closely match the color and appearance of your natural teeth, ensuring a seamless look.
  • Long-lasting durability: With proper care, crowns can last many years, providing reliable protection for your tooth.
  • Improved function: Crowns restore the full function of your tooth, allowing you to bite, chew, and speak with ease.

Caring for your dental crown: Maintaining your crown is similar to caring for your natural teeth. Good oral hygiene practices, including brushing twice a day, flossing daily, and regular dental check-ups, are essential to ensure the longevity of your crown. Avoid chewing on hard objects such as ice or pencils, as this could damage the crown.
